Weather

I’ve always been fascinated by Lightning and storms.  There’s just something mystical and enchanting about them that I love.  Wouldn’t want to get caught out in one of course, but still.  Thunder is pretty neat too, but not nearly as cool as lightning. Thunder can blow out your ears, Lightning can kill you.  Really, Lightning doesn’t need to hit you, the heat it generates could fry you like an egg, but with the rain that normally accompanies storms, odds are good you’ll get hit if it’s that close.

Rain is good sometimes, but more often than not, you’ll just get wet and be miserable.  At least it isn’t snow, really hard to push stuff through snow. Plus it’s cold when it snows, and cold weather sucks like a vacuum.  I hate the cold, makes me wanna make like he birds and migrate somewhere warmer…

Summer is too hot though, maybe I just think that because I work out in the heat all day, I don’t know.  90 degree weather, dripping sweat like a faucet, feels like I’m dying out there, and going inside is no help unless you got A/C.  I love me some A/C, nice cold air on a hot ass day, nothing better.

Spring and Fall have to be my favorite seasons.  The weather is nice, not too hot, nor too cold, can wear short-sleeves and jeans, just a nice break in between the blaze of summer and the icy Winter, just near perfect weather, and I love it.

Gardening Brilliance?

I sometimes think that when it comes to ideas I’m way ahead of my time.  For instance, I got drafted to help the lovely people in the Lawn and Garden section of Walmart today, which is different than my normal job of pushing carts.  While I was helping, I couldn’t help but think that a good way to have a flower garden would be to buy one of the cheap kiddie pools, fill it with the Miracle-Gro and Top soil, then plant your flowers or whatever in it, makes for easier watering, plus, you can move it somewhere else if the weather suddenly shifts.  I don't think I'll ever try it, I have this tendency of killing any and all plants i own.  If it has Chlorophyll, odds are good I'm gonna end up killing it.  It sounds like a good idea, but I want to hear your opinions on the matter.  Do you think it sounds like a stroke of genius?  Or am I all wet?

Music

I’ve come to realize that I really like videogame music. Like REALLY like it, it consists of over 50% of my music folder.  It’s mostly from various NES and SNES games like Super Mario and Donkey Kong, but I also have some obscure-ish ones like Gun. Smoke.  I also think almost anything from Final Fantasy is good, so I have some of that too.  Asking myself why I prefer videogame music over regular music, I answer that it’s because not only are they good tunes, but I can apply them to all sorts of scenarios that I conjure up in my head daily.  I also favor simpler ones like NES and Gameboy because they are in the Mono format so I can hear all of it with just one earbud in.  I listen like that because people like to talk to me while I’m listening to music, and Stereo style means I’ll miss some of the song, making it sound weird.  This not to say that I don’t enjoy regular music, I do, but I’ve found that I’m rather picky about that kind of music, and people take their music choices too seriously, which is another reason I like VGM (Video Game Music, just in case you weren’t aware), people can hate, but I like to think that people like me are an elite corps of musical connoisseurs, but then again, I think different than other people, so I suppose I might be alone in this thinking.

Easter...from a....Different point of view

Hey everyone, did you have a nice Easter?  I know I did.  Got to see family rarely seen, which is always a good thing.  Been sick the past few days, so that’s why I haven’t been writing.  Hard to concentrate when you feel like you are coughing up a lung ya know?  Anyway, Easter always seems to be rather like Christmas, a proverbial war between Jesus and Santa for Christmas, Easter, however, has a giant Bunny that hides eggs.  This is also the only time of year that we see the Cadbury Bunny and his chocolate eggs.  I never understood the Easter Bunny and the need for hiding eggs, especially where it relates to Zombie Jesus.  That’s right, I said Zombie Jesus.  Anyone who is dead and rises after three days, especially since he bled so much he ran out of blood, is a zombie.  While I’m the subject of the supernatural, drinking his blood does make us partly vampires, I don’t care what y’all say.  I haven’t yet figured out how to justify the eating of his flesh…Oh wait, cannibalism, nevermind…Yeah, Christianity is odd sometimes, but that’s just part of faith innit?  But I’m getting off track, I’m talking about Easter.  I grew up with the Easter Bunny, only recently did I learn about what Easter was really about, and I have a skewed version of it, just as I do in almost everything….

Yuri Nater? Yuri Nater? My mouth is begging for a Yuri Nater!

I think I’ll share something about myself that y’all might not know.  I LOVE puns.  I think in all honesty that humor has no higher calling than puns, I love them all.  From the simple to the ridiculous, there are not many puns I don’t like.  Like all comedy, it’s all about the delivery, take a vampire setting for example, perhaps he’s dying to sink his teeth into something….get it? No? Aww….

Tree humor is another of my favorites.  I’m gonna go out on a Limb and Leaf this with you, Wood you mind holding it for me?  Just gonna go Rowan down the river, maybe Branch out a little, I don’t know…

Name humor is always good too, Like Mike Rotch (My Crotch) , Seymour Butz (See more Butts) , I.P. Freely (shouldn’t need to translate this one) , Al Coholic (Alcoholic) , Jacques Strap (Jock Strap) , Hugh Jass (Huge Ass) , Amanda Hugginkiss (A man to Hug and kiss) , Maya Normusbutt (My emormous butt), among others….Gotta love the Simpsons…

Food puns are good too:  Lettuce entertain you, Orange you glad I didn’t say banana?, Berry nice to meet you, My friend dropped his box of Italian pastries on the floor. I cannoli imagine what he must be going through, I can't drink milk. I lactose genes required to digest it, but the best ones are like this:  There was a fight in the candy store. Two suckers got licked, Did you hear about the lost sausage? It was the missing link, and last but not least, I was scrambling for another egg joke, but I can't seem to whip one up. Guess I'm a bit fried.

I think I’ve made y’all groan enough for one night, so I think I’ll stop here. Greninja of Destiny

Arin rode the elevator to the top.  He didn’t know that the Pokemon League building was this high.  He arrived in the center of a chapel-like room, covered in stained glass, and just ahead of him, “Diantha.  I should have known it’d be you.”  “Hello Arin, so nice to see you again!  So, you have beaten the Elite Four, now it’s time to face the Champion.  Are you ready?”  Arin nodded, “Of course I am.  After all, I’ve traveled far and went through a lot of people to get here.  I think I’m more ready than I have ever been.”  Diantha smiles softly.  “Then let’s get started.”  She sends out her Hawlucha, Arin sends out his Greninja.  “Tobias, Ice Beam!”  Tobais fired off lightning quick hand signs and fired a beam of ice at Hawlucha, freezing it solid as well as knocking it out. “Impressive, let’s see how he handles this one, Goodra!”  “I don’t see how that’s gonna help you, but whatever floats your boat I guess, Tobias! Put that dragon on ice!!!” Tobias sent out Ice Beam after Ice Beam until the Goodra fell. Diantha giggles, “Lovely, how about this one?” she sent out Aurorus. “Hmmm…Tobias, Power-Up Punch!” Tobias closed the distance in a flash and punched Aurorus right under the chin, snapping its head back, knocking it out instantly.  “You are just adorable Arin, you and Your Greninja. Already half done with me and I haven’t even landed a strike on you yet. How about this one?” She sends out Gourgeist.  “Tobias, I leave this one to your judgement.”  Tobias nods and uses Ice Beam again, knocking out Gourgeist.  “Perhaps Tyrantrum will be able to do something.”  “Tobias….” “Greninja.” Lightning handsigns and an Ice Beam later, Tyrantrum was down.  Diantha sighs, “I have one last Pokemon to use against you.  I want to say that she’ll be th turn around, but with the way Tobias has been performing, I think he’ll have no trouble at all.  Do your best Gardevoir!”  Gardevoir emerged from her pokeball and started to glow.  “Mega Evolve!!!!!”  Gardevoir became Mega Gardevoir, “I know you have seen Mega Evolution before, but can you face one used by the Champion?”  Tobias, Night Slash.”  Tobias moved faster than anyone could follow and slashed Mega Gardevoir, after a few seconds, she dropped, ending the battle. “Merveilleux, excellent travail! You have defeated me and became the New Champion!!!!” And thus Arin and his Pokemon were immortalized in history as the Greatest Champions of all time.

Indiana Weather

Though I’ve never said it here, I’ve always told anyone who was willing to listen how much I hate the weather in Indiana, my home state.  The weather happens in such a way that it could be raining on one side of the street and sun shining on the other side.  I’ve been rained, snowed, sleeted, and hailed all within a span of like two hours.  The weather person is never right, so I’m never dressed for the weather, because I don’t know what the weather is going to be at any given time.  Now, if I worked inside, this wouldn’t be a big deal, but I work outside, so if the weather sucks, then it sucks to be me.  My continued exposure to the random weather has helped me adjust to climates that my family can’t handle.  This is usually reflected when it’s cold outside, they’re wearing coats, I’ve got a hoodie on.  They’re 3-4 layers thick, I’ve got 1 shirt on under the hoodie.  I hate Hoosier weather, I really do….

Clouds

Have you ever been outside on a nice day and just suddenly stop everything and just stare at the clouds?  Aren’t clouds nice?  I think so, enough I did just that at work today, saw some nice fluffy evening clouds, and just stopped mid-stride on the sidewalk and stared for a few minutes, just watching them go past, and pondering their shapes.  I’ve never done that before that I can remember, so I’m not sure if it’s normal or just a by-product of my potentially ADHD addled brain, but I’m getting off track.  Clouds, by their very nature are nothing more than a large amount of water vapor up in the sky, yet is one of the most entertaining things to gaze upon by people of all ages.  Some people try to form shapes out of the clouds they see, others just space out.  Clouds come in all kinds of shapes and names, but to me, they are just clouds, potential harbingers of rainy weather, which is all fine and dandy when I don’t have to be outside, but otherwise….yeah.  I think the best clouds are found on a pretty day in front of a nice blue sky, but the ones seen on an evening background are awesome to behold as well.  I’m curious as to what y'all think about clouds.  Shoot me a line in the comments section and tell me all about it. And one more thing, why does Microsoft name their mass storage…thing the Cloud?

Book Haul, composite version

So today I thought I’d write about my recent book haul this evening.  I bought 36 books tonight, some of them were a box set counting as one item, so THAT is awesome on an epic scale.  Most of the books are Foreign Language Learning books that span Europe. Such places as Spain, France, Italy, Russia, and a few others.  I have two books that involve being creative with duct tape, I accidentally got a book on soap making, but I think I can work with it.  A few books on Minecraft, a moonshine book, a book on journaling tips, a book on kites, creativity with cardboard,  a book on creative rebellion, War of the Worlds, a book on Office weapons, The Tarizon Trilogy and another book from that saga, and Romance of the Three Kingdoms, a book I’ve wanted to read since I played the Dynasty Warriors games back in the day.  Rounding out my haul are box sets of books, which I mentioned above at the beginning.  Most of these books were free on Amazon.com, so I hope that they’re not free because they suck.  Whatever the case may be, you, the reader, shall find out one way or the other when I read and review all these lovely gems.

I think that’s all for now, I hope you enjoyed reading this and I hope you come back again to read what other bit of randomness comes out of my head.  My contact info is at the bottom as always in case you have any questions or comments, and be sure to keep an eye out on my review blog, The Quilly and Star Review Page for those book reviews when I get them  Until next time, Toodles ^^

Pokemon Do Die

Gonna real talk about Pokémon here.  Most people play Pokémon like you normally would.  I don’t. I play the Nuzlocke rules, which means I need to be careful with my Pokémon, or else they’ll die, and there are few things more demoralizing than watching your beloved Pokémon die before your eyes because you got reckless and came unprepared for the fight.  I’ve been there in Sinnoh, but by that time, I had already lost my best to the Gym Trainers in Hearthome City, so I stopped caring.  Unova also saw this tragedy, but I got ahead of myself, so I had it coming to me.  Kanto and Johto have been spared that I can…Oh wait, Johto had a run too. Dammit. Hoenn hasn’t yet, so I have two untainted regions.  Anyway, all attempts to do get a team of Pokémon to survive to the Elite Four has ended in failure so far, but Kalos is looking promising, I’ve got 6 badges and only two deaths, so that’s a real good sign.

I’d like to highlight/relive some of my really devastating losses, beginning in Sinnoh with the loss of Marcus, my Machop and love interest to Zelda, my Golbat.  To this day, I still don’t understand how the Geodude was faster than he was, but it grabbed Marcus before he could attack, which I thought was odd, then it started to glow, then I realized that the problem at hand was much worse than I could have imagined.  The Geodude self-destructed, fragmenting itself and Marcus.  Zelda declared all Rock-type Pokémon her mortal enemies, which meant that she went out of her way to fight them, which meant that she was a t a disadvantage as they could just knock her out of the sky with rocks, but she felt the need to avenge Marcus’ death by destroying all Rock type Pokémon.  Speaking of Zelda, she was one of the Pokémon lost in the Hearthome Gym, which specializes in Ghost types, a type Zelda was prepared for, except that Ace Trainer Allen’s Haunter had other ideas, One Hit Killing her with Shadow Ball, un critical, with a level gap being three levels up on Zelda. That was a blow to the gut. Shae was an equally devastating loss as she more or less committed confusion suicide to a Misdreavus.  Actually, that one just pissed me off, but with her death, I was no longer really prepared to face Fantina, the gym leader, so I just sent my Pokémon to die.

Unova was doomed to failure, I had early success and got overconfident, to which Clay, Driftveil City’s Gym Leader, quickly put me in my place.  And that’s all I really got to say about that.  Johto was a blur, so I don’t really remember that one.

Kalos region deaths really hurt because both deaths were needless and stupid.  Arnold, my Amaura, was groomed as the star of the team next to my Starter, but the Reflection Cave put an end to Arnold’s happy times as I faced a Battle Girls Throh with him, which anyone who knows their typing chart sees where I went wrong, pitting a doubly weak Pokémon against Throh. Arnold went for the Take Down, hurting himself pretty bad, but not knocking out the Throh, which repaid our arrogance by grabbing Arnold by the neck, spun him around by his neck and slammed Arnold down so hard it left a crater in the ground.  After Copperfield picked up the pieces of the Throh, I buried Arnold and spent the rest of my time in Reflection Cave reflecting on my stupidity. Lucas, my Lucario was a case not unlike Shae back in Sinnoh, and I was getting flashbacks to that day as well, but that’s what I get for pitting a fighting type against a flying type.  Another senseless death, and to a Team Flare Grunt even, almost as bad as what happened to Arnold.

The Story of Craig Part 1

It’s said that for every winner, there are at least 3 losers.  Craig, he is one of those three.  A man who did everything possible to move up in the world was cursed to mediocrity.  No matter what he did, he was always looked over.  Craig wished for a better life, one where he could fit in and stand out as well.  He found his wish in Team Flare….

Well, mostly.  Hard to stand out when everyone looks the same, but Craig did fit in with these new people, who seemed like they had a good thing going, preserving the beauty of the Kalos region, stopping those who would despoil it, though the tactics seemed a little unsavory at times, Craig was happy to be doing some good for once.  His first real assignment unsupervised was to collect fossils in the Glittering Cave.  He never understood the importance of the fossils, but he was allowed to do it without the Admins breathing down his neck, so it was already proving to be a kush job in his book.  His job was simple, so simple a moron could do it, stand at the entrance where the fossils were and stop anyone from interfering.  That complicated things a little, but who comes this far into the cave?  After a while, he got bored, the guys looking for the fossils were taking forever and Craig’s mind was starting to drift. Just as he was about to zone out completely, he heard footsteps coming from the cave.  And from it, came a boy, a small boy, he didn’t look like much, Craig thought he could take him. Craig stopped the boy and challenged him to battle, sending out his Zubat, while the boy sent out a….Onix….oh boy, this could be bad. Craig was at a loss, how could he have been so stupid to be in a cave filled with rock types, and bring two pokemon who are weak to that type? “Zubat, use Wing Attack!” The zubat tapped Onix with its wing, needless to say, it wasn’t very effective. The Onix picked up a sizable rock with its tail and smacked Craig’s Zubat with it.  Super Effective, and a One Hit Knock Out….what a surprise….  Craig sent out his other pokemon, a Houndour, which promptly had a rock dropped on his head.  Craig was defeated, and a failure once more.  Flashbacks of his life before Team Flare started running before his eyes.  “No, I will not lose again, I must not be a failure here too!

Google Ramble 2

Welcome to the second installment of Google Ramble.  Today I searched for Raven, and got a wide variety of results.

First and foremost was a Wikipedia entry for the bird of the same name.
A raven is one of several larger-bodied members of the genus Corvus. They have black plumage and large beaks. In Europe the word "raven" normally refers to the Common Raven.
Species are:
·         Corvus albicollis  White-necked Raven
·         Corvus corax  Common Raven
·         Corvus coronoides  Australian Raven
·         Corvus crassirostris  Thick-billed Raven
·         Corvus cryptoleucus  Chihuahuan Raven
·         Corvus mellori  Little Raven
·         Corvus rhipidurus  Fan-tailed Raven
·         Corvus ruficollis  Brown-necked Raven
·         Corvus tasmanicus  Forest Raven
Extinct:
·         Corvus moriorum  Chatham Raven
·         Corvus antipodum  New Zealand Raven
Smaller-bodied species in the genus Corvus include the crows, jackdaws, and the rook.

Next came the DC Comics superheroine.
Raven is the half-breed daughter of a human mother named Arella and the interdimensional demon Trigon. She grew up in an alternate dimension called Azarath, with pacifisticinhabitants whose spiritual leader was the mystic Azar. She was taught to "control her emotions" by Azar, in order to suppress her inherited demonic powers.
During this time, Raven rarely saw her mother and grew detached from her. Upon Azar's death, Arella began the task of raising and teaching Raven. Around this same time she met her father face to face for the first time. Soon after her 16th birthday, Raven learned that Trigon planned to come to her dimension; she vowed to stop him.
Raven initially approached the Justice League, but they refused her on the advice of Zatanna, who sensed her demonic parentage.[1] In desperation, she reformed the Titans as the New Teen Titans to fight her father. The team consisted of Robin, Wonder Girl, Kid Flash, Starfire, Cyborg, and Beast Boy. Raven and her new friends later came to think of one another as family.

Following that and peppering the page were a few technology companies/software featuring the name.
There was, of course, the IMDb entry for Raven Symone.

There is a U.K. Thrash Metal band called Raven lunatics, which I thought was interesting

Finally there’s a site for identifying the bird

Running in the Tall Grass 4

Welcome back to Running in the Tall Grass.  Actually, tonight, this post has a different title:  Attack of the Killer Dust Clouds. I say this because there wasn't a lick of grass to be found.  I was only on one route today, Route 13, or Lumiose Badlands.  I actually saw all the Encounters on this route by running around and getting attacked by the dust clouds.  I encountered a total of 25 Pokémon of 3 different species across all areas I ventured:

11 Trapinch- 44%
7 Dugtrio- 28%
7 Gible- 28%

As you can see, slim pickin’s this time, why the Kalos government put a power plant out in the desert is beyond me, but hey, if it finds me Pokémon to destroy, all the better.  All of them ambushed me from dust clouds, some would even follow me as I tried to fight the powerful winds.  Not a single rare encounter between the three of them.  Kinda wish I had Rock Smash so I could try and find the other two Pokémon in this area, but I’m no completionist, though that does sound like a good idea next time I play Pokémon Y.  Try and see how many Pokémon I find til I find all of them in an area.

Anyway, not really much to say about this one, so I think I’ll cut it off here, I hope you enjoyed reading this and I hope you come back again to read what other bit of randomness comes out of my head. Running in the Tall Grass 3

Welcome back to Running in the Tall Grass. It’s been a few days since I last posted, and I’m sorry for that, stuff came up.  At any rate, I traveled far and wide over the three days I was gone and encountered a total of 160 Pokémon of 30 different species across all areas I ventured:

30 Wingull- 18.75%
13 Hawlucha- 8.125%
12 Golett- 7.5%
11 Drifloon- 6.875%
10 Nosepass- 6.25%
10 Zangoose -6.25%
9 Spoink- 5.625%
6 Eevee- 3.75%
5 Absol- 3.125%
5 Chingling- 3.125%
5 Whismur- 3.125%
5 Meinfoo- 3.125%
4 Houndour- 2.5%
4 Sigilyph- 2.5%
4 Woobat- 2.5%
3 Carbink- 1.875%
3 Mr. Mime- 1.875%
3 Snubbull- 1.875%
3 Solosis- 1.875%
2 Bagon- 1.25%
2 Emolga- 1.25%
2 Inkay- 1.25%
2 Seviper- 1.25%
1 Chatot- .625%
1 Ferroseed- .625%
1 Miltank- .625%
1 Sawk- .625%
1 Tauros- .625%
1 Tentacool- .625%
1 Zubat- .625%

Again, I elected to not separate them by location for the sake of simplicity.  I also didn't want to try and calculate the percentages for each area, 160 Pokémon is a lot. As always, my Connecting Cave encounters happened just passing through to see the scientist in there to heal my party.  I had 1 Whismur horde encounter and I found a Zubat.

Some of the encounters on Route 8 changed up on me from what I had discovered previously.  The Drifloon were out in force, as were the Wingull hordes, Spoink kept up its average encounter rate.  I had my usual rare encounters, and even found a couple Bagon along the way.  The Zangoose/Seviper horde encounters numbered 2 this time, so 10 Zangoose was actually 8 found with the 2 Seviper, so 2 single encounters.  Aside from that, pretty much stat quo as the other two posts.

I actually got away from Route 8 and moved forward to Route 10 and beyond, exploring Routes 10, 11, 12, and the Reflection Cave.  But first, Route 10, or as I was gonna start calling it, the New Route 8.  I found 54 Pokémon on Route 10, second only to Route 8.  The average encounters of Golett and Hawlucha meant that they were the one I ran into the most, hit 2 Nosepass hordes makes up the 10 I found here, I wouldn’t have believed that Eevee was a very rare encounter if I hadn’t seen the encounter table, the numbers certainly seem to prove otherwise.  Emolga, on the other hand, was as rare as the table says it is.  Houndour, Snubbull, and Sigilyph keep it rare on Route 10.

Route 11 was really nothing more than a precursor to Reflection Cave finding only a single Sawk, which is an average encounter on Route 11.  Almost not even worth mentioning here.

Reflection Cave was a doozy, all those mirror surfaces was kinda trippy, not to mention that it was an appropriate place for me to do a little reflecting while I was in there, as one on my Pokémon suffered a lethal injury due to my stupidity.  But this isn’t the place for that, perhaps I’ll outline that in a new post.  At any rate, the pickings were oddly slim in here, maybe because of the mirrors, I’m actually surprised I didn’t find any Roggenrola, they are average in here, along with Mr. Mime and Solosis.  I found a good number of Chinglings despite its rarity in here, Carbink on the other hand is par for the course.  Though I don’t have it on the encounter table, Woobat and Ferroseed were found by them dropping on top of me from the ceiling, common and average respectively.

Now we move on to my current route, Route 12.  Not much seen here, don’t really plan on hanging around long here as my Pokémon are pretty stout at this point.  Only found one of each of the Pokémon I found, Tentacool is common, Chatot is average, and Tauros and Miltank are rare.

I think that’s all for now, I hope you enjoyed reading this and I hope you come back again to read what other bit of randomness comes out of my head.  I got my list of ways you can contact me in case you have any questions or comments.  Until next time, Toodles ^^

Google Ramble

Hello,  and welcome to another idea i had called Google Ramble.  The premise is that I Google a random subject and write about it.

Today's subject is Wanton

wan·ton
ˈwäntn/
adjective
  1. 1.

Naturally, most of the results I found were the definition of the word, however, I found a single Wikipedia article for the Chinese dumpling Wonton, which can also be spelled Wanton.

wonton (also spelled wantanwanton, or wuntun in transcription from CantoneseMandarinhúntun [xwə̌n.dwə̌n]) is a type of dumpling commonly found in a number ofChinese cuisines.
In Mandarin, the name of the food is written as 馄饨 (pinyin: húntun; roughly meaning "slowly boiled dumpling"). However, the English name derives from the Cantonese wan4tan1.
In Cantonese, 雲吞 or 云吞 (pinyin: yúntūn; Cantonese[wɐ̏ntʰɐ́n]), is a popular variant written form that literally means "swallowing clouds".
Alright, I'll be honest here, Most of this was copy/pasted, but I still find this to be pretty much in line with what i was attempting. I also don't own any of the material i copy/pasted, that stuff belongs to the people who actually wrote the stuff.  I think that’s all for now, I hope you enjoyed reading this and I hope you come back again to read what other bit of randomness comes out of my head.  I'll start putting a list of ways you can contact me in case yu have any questions or comments.  Until next time, Toodles ^^
