Running in the Tall Grass

Here is a new series I wanna try called Running in the Tall Grass.  It’s a simple idea sprouted from boredom while doing a Nuzlocke Run of Pokémon X.  The basic premise is that for a period of time, in this case about 45 minutes, I count up the Pokémon I encountered during that time, figure up the percentages, and compare to what Bulbapedia says.  So for this first installment I was running along Route 8, otherwise known as Muraille Coast.  I also had an encounter in the Connectiong Cave, a.k.a The Zubat Roost, but I’ll get to that afterwards.  I had encountered a total of 40 Pokémon of 9 different species on Route 8:

9 Zangoose-22.5%

7 Meinfoo- 17.5%

6 Drifloon- 15%

5 Wingull- 12.5%

4 Spoink- 10%

3 Inkay- 7.5%

2 Bagon- 5%

2 Seviper- 5%

2 Absol- 5%

Now, we compare this to what Bulbapedia says:  Route 8 encounter table

We find Zangoose was the most encountered Pokémon.  Now ordinarily this would mean that the table provided would be wrong, but only 1 of the 9 was encountered by itself, the other 8 and the 2 seviper were encountered in two separate horde encounters.  The same is true with the Wingulls, all found within one horde encounter.  It must have been my lucky day with Meinfoo, I found a lot of them despite its rare encounter rate, Drifloon keeps with its encounter rate, I was actually surprised that I even found one Bagon, let alone two.  Absol and Inkay pretty much support their encounter rate.

I mentioned at the beginning of this post Connecting Cave, I didn’t want to include this because it’s not a grassy area, but not all my findings will be in the grass, so this is a perfect opportunity to kinda get off the main road so to speak.  I had one encounter while passing through the cave, a single horde of Whismurs.

Seeing the provided table above , such an encounter is average, but it’s the first time I ever had one, given that the horde encounters themselves are kinda rare so just for the fun of it, here’s the list of Connecting Cave Encounter Pokémon: 

5 Whismur – 100%
